The Royal New Brunswick Rifle Association held the Fullbore Annual Prize Meet on 5 CDSB Gagetown July 29-30. One of the trophies competed for is the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup which has been awarded continuously since 1861. As submitted by Laurence Gilbey, President, Fredericton Trap & Skeet Club
The Saturday, September 9th, 2023 edition of the Annual RNBRA Provincial Shotgun Championship at the Fredericton Trap and Skeet Club went well, under ideal weather conditions. Each participant shot 25 Skeet, 25 Trap and 50 Sporting clays for the shoot.

We are the only club, that I am aware of, to host all three shotgun disciplines in one event. There were 24 shooters attending.

The results are as follows;
  • HOA went to Martin Gaudreau from Quebec with a score of 88.
  • 1st Runner up with a score of 87 went to Mike Love from FTSC.
  • 2nd Runner up with a score of 87 went to Laurence Gilbey from FTSC.
  • High Ladies with a score of 69 went to Melissa Wasson from FTSC.
  • High Junior with a score of 68 went to Jayden Sullivan of FTSC.

The official RNBRA wall plaque hanging in our clubhouse will be updated with the 2023 results. We wish to thank the RNBRA for providing the handsome walnut award plaques that were presented to the winners of the different categories of achievement.

As an associate member, we also wish to extend our thanks and acknowledgement for the support that the RNBRA has contributed to our club over the years.

To our continued success,
Laurence Gilbey
President, Fredericton Trap & Skeet Club

WPRC’S GUNS ‘N HEELS 2023

8/11/2023

On Saturday, July 29, 2023, WPRC hosted its third-annual ladies-only event, Guns 'n Heels.
We were pleased to have both the CCFR and The Gun Dealer partner with us, and receive
donations from the RNBRA, Brennon’s Home Hardware, and Currie’s.

80 ladies registered for Guns ‘n Heels this year, 17 of whom had attended previously. Skill
levels varied, but many of these ladies had limited, if any, shooting experience. We had 33 all-
day volunteers plus 4 half-day volunteers running this event, including special guests CCFR Vice
President for Public Relations Tracey Wilson, and CCFR Provincial Director for NB, NS, and
NFLD Jason Gallen. These guests were not only a considerable help to us, but an encouragement
to our shooters.

We divided the ladies into 5 groups, who travelled from station to station together. These
groups were together all day, so ladies had a chance to shoot with their old friends and make
some new ones as they cheered each other on. Each group of ladies journeyed from .22 pistols to
.38 special revolvers shooting at steel targets, followed by 9mm pistols aiming at balloons, and
finally .45 pistols firing on steel. The long gun circuit began with .22 rifles firing on customized
pink and purple Guns ‘n Heels targets, followed by 12 gauge shotguns with balloons and a clay
thrower, and finally centrefire rifles (.223, 9mm .308) featuring the ShotMarker system. After the
first 3.5 sessions, we sat down under the big tents at noon for a delicious chicken parmesan
dinner provided by Brigitte's Catering, and then finished the last 1.5 sessions before leaving for
home, all smiles.

Guns ‘n Heels provides a safe and enjoyable setting for ladies to receive firearm instruction
and try a variety of firearms. Their experience helps alleviate some of the fears and
misconceptions surrounding firearms and promotes shooting as a legitimate sport. Guns ‘n Heels
2023 was another huge success.
