Paul and Gord, NB APM 2016
The RNBRA is saddened to announce the recent death of Paul Bastarache. Paul was a long time member of the RNBRA and a personal friend of many of the Fullbore shooters in the Atlantic region. Paul was a great competitor who contributed to all of our success by setting a high standard and generously sharing his knowledge.  During his time shooting F-Class Fullbore, Paul won the Grand Aggregate of the Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick Annual Prize  Matches, some more than once. Paul also won the Atlantic Championship Grand Aggregate. At one time or another, Paul won most of our New Brunswick matches including the Governor Generals Medal and the Prince of Wales Trophy.

An important component of Paul’s success was rifle accuracy which he learned from Benchrest Competition and applied to F-Class. Paul was the first to ask that we switch to the smaller ICFRA targets in the Maritimes which are half the size of traditional Fullbore targets. That changed the game, putting a greater emphasis on rifle accuracy, and better prepared us for national and international competition success that was to come.

Paul was also a sportsman. The first time I won a Provincial Prize Match I had bested Paul by a slim margin but Paul wasted no time extending his hand and congratulating me on the victory. Paul will be missed by many on the rifle ranges of the Maritimes.

The RNBRA offers its heart felt condolences to Paul’s family and friends.
